Times they are a Changin'

Democrat Paul Hackett lost the election for the 2nd Congressional District in Ohio. But the democratic party was still victorious. How you ask? Changing their tone. Up until Hackett, recent interest in the liberal party seemed to wane after the presidential election, but in the past couple of weeks there has been a resurgence of party pride. Hackett, heavily critiqued for comments he made about the president see GOP Plans to Bury Name Calling Candidate, gained national attention by being outspoken against the war, the Bush administration, and what was needed in order to make America a better place. Some say he was out of line in his speeches that critiqued the current government, but in my opinion he delivered a well needed serving of "Wake Up America!"

Having only lost the election by 4000 votes Hackett's near victory has prompted key GOP members to speak out about the growing following of the democratic party. Newt Gingrich warned the GOP about the possibility of the Dems gaining power in smaller elections that could eventually lead to the taking of the White House in 2008. Could this be a turning point for the Democratic party? Riding high on the promises made at the DLC just a few weeks ago it is apparent that times may be changing and the transformation of an established political party may be taking shape.
